Our Farm to School Program allows us to stand out from other early childhood education centers in the area. With this program, we offer increased access to not only food and agriculture education but also school gardens- enhancing the quality of our students' educational experience. This outdoor programming allows us to emphasize experiential learning opportunities, parent and community engagement, and a lifetime of health and wellness for our children, families, and caregivers involved.  

As our Farm to School Program grows, so do our outdoor learning spaces. These spaces are high-quality, allowing us to have high-quality learning experiences within them. We are grateful for this growth as it gives us the opportunity to get more students (of all ages) outdoors, whether that be in the Greenhouse, Butterfly Garden, Vegetable Gardens, or Compost Center.  Familiarizing students with various outdoor learning spaces and gardening skills has had a positive impact on fostering independence, confidence, and social skills across all age groups and academic disciplines.

From birth, social and emotional learning (SEL) is highly important for helping children to understand and manage their emotions, feel and show empathy for others, establish healthy relationships, set positive goals, and make responsible decisions. Effective SEL programming, from early childhood education to college, will promote the development of social and emotional skills that lead to future healthy relationships and improved academic achievement. 

We believe that we cannot teach what we do not know.  That is why we take seriously the social and emotional development of our staff.  We incorporate social and emotional learning with multiple staff trainings, resources, employee engagement, and many opportunities for the development of social and emotional skills. 

Social and emotional learning is incorporated in all of our programs intentionally.  This is possible in the classroom with purposeful lesson planning, modeling, skits, and walking through these skills in real-time situations that occur.  

Social and emotional learning occurs at home, too.  By encouraging the healthy development of social and emotional skills in your time with your family, you further emphasize the importance of them and the positive impact that these skills have on your family's life. 

When we encourage social and emotional learning in these three realms and partner with other organizations, we ensure that we have a ripple effect on our community, as well.  Our staff, students, and families not only demonstrate healthy social and emotional skills, but they also serve as a role model and teacher for others to develop their own social emotional skills at any age.
